Getting to Know Who and What We Are!
Our Most Important Asset for You - Our People
Naturally, a compounding pharmacy
relies heavily on the competency of the pharmacists who have a number of
responsibilities to the patients and physicians whom they serve. Our
pharmacists, are committed to life-long learning
and continuing education. A major advantage of compounded prescriptions is
that they provide treatments that are new, and not commercially
available. Our pharmacists are willing, and well prepared to provide
physicians and
patients with the best possible compounded medication and consultation.
Quality Systems Department and Engineers
Our Quality Systems Department
works independently of the pharmacists and reports directly to the President
and Chief Executive Officer. This department is tasked to work with the pharmacists to
"engineer" policy and procedures to assure the facility, equipment and
personnel meet the demanding standards set forth by senior management.
Currently, we have over 200
released and active policy and procedure documents.
Our Quality Systems Engineers (QSE)
are the "watchdogs" of the compounding pharmacy. All of our QSE staff are
engineers with bioscience or Quality Systems background who work independently to assure the
Quality Systems created by the pharmacists, technicians, and QSE engineers,
are working properly. Our QSE staff is also in charge of facility wide training and keeps
statistical records to assure only the best products are created in our
compounding pharmacy.
Pharmacy Technicians
Our pharmacy
technicians make it possible to serve a large number of physicians and
patients by reducing the turn-around time in filling prescriptions. Our
pharmacy technicians undergo rigorous
training in quality systems procedures and compounding.
Customer Care
Our
Customer Care Representatives
assure your questions and orders are handled quickly. Our Customer Care
people have the product knowledge and training to be able to interact with
physicians, medical staff and patients on a daily basis. Additional training
is given in computer information technology and customer service to assure
that information flows freely from our organization to yours.
PCAB Accreditation
McGuff Compounding Pharmacy Services, Inc. has earned the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board’s new Seal of Accreditation for meeting the compounding pharmacy profession’s highest quality and safety standards.
The PCAB™ Seal of Accreditation is a new system of standards created by the leading experts in the compounding pharmacy field today. Our accreditation status as a PCAB Accredited™ compounding pharmacy lets you know that McGuff Compounding Pharmacy Services, Inc. is dedicated to protecting our patients by practicing safe, high-quality compounding.
Compounding medications is an integral part of the practice of pharmacy – yet many people may not even be aware of it. Compounded medications are prescriptions that are written by a physician, veterinarian or other legally authorized prescriber and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist, for situations such as:
- When a child needs a smaller dose of a medicine that is only commercially manufactured in adult-size doses.
- When a person cannot tolerate the inactive ingredients (such as gluten or sugar) in manufactured medicines.
- When a doctor believes a medicine is needed for his or her patient, but a manufacturer has discontinued the medicine for economic reasons.
Many pharmacies practice a small degree of compounding, while others specialize in the centuries-old practice.
With the estimated 30 million to 40 million prescriptions that are compounded each year, there has been a need for an enhanced, profession-wide system of standards by which each compounding pharmacy can test its quality processes. While compounding pharmacy is regulated by the state, PCAB Accreditation is an even more comprehensive way to ensure a compounding pharmacy has undergone the profession’s most rigorous review and inspection measures.
To earn the designation “PCAB Accredited™ compounding pharmacy,” we completed an extensive application and submission process that was reviewed by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board. Our compounding policies and procedures were then reviewed by professionals. Next, we opened our doors for an extensive on-site inspection led by compounding experts. Only when these stringent evaluations were completed did PCAB™ officially grant us the PCAB™ Seal of Accreditation.
We are honored to be among the first in the nation to earn this new accreditation, as it sets us apart from other compounding pharmacies. It confirms our commitment to providing safe, personalized solutions that meet the medical needs of our community.

Modern Equipment - the Backbone
of any Compounding Pharmacy
It is of critical importance that
a compounding pharmacy has the laboratory equipment required to produce the
high quality products demanded by our customers. Of equal importance,
is the ability of the pharmacist to maintain the equipment and have the
equipment calibrated to national standards on a routine basis. Our quality
systems department is currently tracking 111 pieces of equipment for
calibration purposes.
The McGuff Compounding Pharmacy
not only has the equipment but also maintains the equipment utilizing the
periodic inspection and calibration services of independent test labs. As
mentioned, McGuff CPS has had its quality management systems audited
independently by Orion Registrars, Inc. and has been certified as meeting
the International ISO 9001:2000 requirements. We use the International Standards
Organization as an additional independent inspection team to periodically
audit our quality systems. This assures you that we maintain our equipment to the
highest-level possible.
Our Facility Meets or Exceeds
the U.S.P. Guidelines for Compounding Pharmacy
Designed from the ground up as a
compounding pharmacy, the McGuff Compounding Pharmacy Services facility is
located in Santa Ana, California. This facility was designed and built in
1999 to meet the new United States Pharmacopoeia XXV (U.S.P.) Standards for
Compounding Pharmacies. Additionally, the facility meets the stringent
requirements of the Food and Drug Administration’s, Current Good
Manufacturing Practices for the manufacture of sterile pharmaceutical
injections.

McGuff CPS has an inner core of
two class 100 laminar flow hoods, located within class 10,000 clean rooms (for sterile filling) with independent air handlers.
These are supported
by multiple gowning anterooms and by class 100,000 compounding and production
areas. Each compounding area has independent air handling as well to assure
there is no airborne cross contamination from one room to the next. This core is encompassed by administration offices, raw material
inventory, and shipping facilities. We monitor the air pressure in eleven
separate areas to keep clean air flowing from the clean inner core to the
class 100,000 outer core to the rest of the facility. Raw material storage,
compounding operations, filling operations and final product storage are
monitored for temperature and humidity. Daily, weekly and quarterly cleaning
protocols assure a very clean facility.
As you can tell, we are quite
proud of our people, and our compounding facility. You have an open
invitation to come and see us for yourself. We would be honored to show you
what we take such pride in.
Price
With all of the attention we pay
to staff training, along with our substantial investment in our facility,
equipment and maintenance, one would think that the McGuff Compounding
Pharmacy could not possibly be price competitive.
Well… please do not tell the
competition, but paying attention to the details actually saves time, energy
and raw materials. Do it right the first time and you will never have to
look back or do it again. We live by these words and as a result, we have
become extremely cost effective.
Quality patient care should be
affordable; we strive to make it so! |
