Fifty pharmacies nationwide are PCAB-Accredited
Patients have greater choice when looking for a quality compounding pharmacy.
February, 2009
WASHINGTON DC - More local pharmacies are making it easier for prescribers and
patients to choose a compounding pharmacy that meets the highest quality standards. The
Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board reached a milestone by accrediting its 50th
pharmacy in January. These 50 PCAB-Accredited pharmacies are located in 24 states, and there
are over 110 more pharmacies which have applied for PCAB Accreditation.
PCAB utilizes comprehensive standards created by some of the leading organizations and
pharmacy compounding experts in the pharmacy profession. To earn PCAB Accreditation, these
50 pharmacies met strict criteria which included completion of an extensive application,
documentation of their written policies, and an on-site inspection of its quality procedures.
“PCAB is excited to reach this significant milestone,” said Tom Murry, PCAB Executive
Director. “Patients want to know their compounding pharmacy is high quality and has been
independently verified. PCAB offers these patients a way to verify that their compounding
pharmacy is meeting the highest national standard.”
The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board is a not-for-profit corporation formed
by eight national pharmacy organizations that recognized the need for a national standards
organization for compounding pharmacy. Together, these leading organizations developed the
policies and standards for the practice of compounding pharmacy, as well as the PCAB
Accreditation criteria and processes.
